Overview : After his failure at winning a gold medal for the country, Mahavir Phogat, a wrestler, vows to realise his dreams by training his daughters for the Commonwealth Games despite societal pressures.

Dangal grossed ₹716 crore after its initial run. It included ₹511 crore in India and ₹205 crore overseas.After it collected a nett of ₹345 crore over its third weekend from release, it beat the record held by PK for the highest grossing Indian film.Dangal became highest grossing Indian film worldwide in July 2017, with a gross of ₹2,000 crore, after its second phase of release in China and Taiwan.The worldwide distributor share of Dangal was ₹525 crore as of 1 June 2017.As of June 2017, the worldwide gross of Dangal stood at US$307 million (₹2,000 crore).Dangal emerged as 30th highest-grossing film of 2016 worldwide and the fifth highest-grossing non-English film of all time.

2. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion 

Overview : Bhallaladeva conspires against his brother to become the king of Mahishmati. He soon gets him killed by Katappa and imprisons his wife. Years later, the son returns to avenge his father's death.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion grossed ₹1.52 billion in India on the first day of its release. In 3 days, the film collected ₹4.15 billion, setting the record for the highest 3 day collection. It became the highest-grossing film in India grossing ₹5.65 billion in 5 days.It also became the highest grossing Indian film worldwide with a gross of ₹7.92 billion in six days.The Conclusion became the first Indian film to enter the 1000 Crore Club, collecting over ₹10 billion in all languages in 10 days.

The Conclusion Worldwide grossed ₹1793.08 crore(US$270 million). Overseas Unitedstate grossed ₹289.6crore(US$43 million), Arab Gulf Country grossed ₹131.44crore(US$20.1 million), China grossed ₹77.5crore(US$11.9 million), Japan grossed ₹8.5crore(US$1.3 million).

3. Secret Superstar

Overview : Insia, an ambitious young girl, dreams of becoming a singer, but faces opposition from her father. Undeterred, she strives to follow her passion by anonymously posting her songs on the Internet.

The film's worldwide gross was ₹101 crore by 31 October 2017,and then ₹150 crore (US$22 million) by 18 January 2018 prior to its China release.Compared to its limited budget, Secret Superstar became one of the most profitable films of all time. Following its China release on 19 January 2018, it grossed more than ₹900 crore (US$130 million) worldwide by 15 February 2018, on a budget of ₹15 crore (US$2.2 million), over 6,000% return on investment (ROI).In comparison, only two films have exceeded $6,000% ROI at the US box office.

4. Bajrangi Bhaijaan

Overview: Pavan, a devoted follower of Lord Hanuman, faces numerous challenges when he tries to reunite Munni with her family in Pakistan after she gets lost while travelling back home with her mother.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan grossed ₹333 crore (US$50 million) worldwide in its first week,beating the previous record of ₹332 crore (US$49 million) worldwide by PK. The film went on to net ₹3.15 billion (US$47 million) and ₹4.26 billion (US$63 million) gross in India and grossed ₹1.792 billion (US$27 million) overseas for a worldwide gross of ₹6.03 billion (US$90 million) in 31 days. Bajrangi Bhaijaan became the quickest film to collect ₹1 billion (US$15 million)and ₹2 billion (US$30 million) net domestically beating PK and Dhoom 3. The distributor share of the film had crossed ₹150 crore (US$22 million) crore which is a record in India being the second film to do so after PK.In August 2015, Eros International said in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange that Bajrangi Bhaijaan has become fastest Bollywood film to gross ₹500 crore (US$75 million) worldwide, while it crossed ₹300 crore (US$45 million) nett at the domestic box office.

5. PK

Overview: An alien on Earth loses the only device he can use to communicate with his spaceship. His innocent nature and child-like questions force the country to evaluate the impact of religion on its people.

PK opted to have its box office figures tracked by Rentrak a United States-based company that specializes in audience measurements. PK has become the first Bollywood film to earn ₹1 billion (US$15 million) nett from online bookings. PK grossed ₹175 crore (US$28 million) worldwide in its first weekend.It became the highest-grossing Indian film, in both domestic as well as international markets.

The film's final worldwide gross was ₹832crore(US$136.33 million)

6. Baahubali: The Beginning

Overview: In the kingdom of Mahishmati, while pursuing his love, Shivudu learns about the conflict-ridden past of his family and his legacy. He must now prepare himself to face his new-found archenemy.

Baahubali: The Beginning on the first day of its release collected ₹75 crore (US$11 million) worldwide which was the highest opening ever for an Indian film until Kabali surpassed it in 2016 by earning ₹875 million (US$13 million).The film collected ₹150 million (US$2.2 million) alone from United States on its first day.First weekend collections stood around ₹1.62 billion (US$24 million) worldwide from all its versions, the third biggest ever for an Indian film. The film grossed around ₹2.55 billion (US$38 million) worldwide in the first week of its release.It became the first South Indian film to gross ₹3 billion (US$45 million) worldwide, reaching there in 9 days, and subsequently grossed ₹4.01 billion (US$60 million) worldwide in 15 days.And has successfully crossed ₹5 billion (US$75 million) mark in 24 days.

7. Sultan

Overview: After the death of his son, Sultan Ali Khan, a middle-aged wrestler, gives up the sport. Years later, he sets out to revive his career as he needs the prize money and wants to regain his lost respect.

The film grossed approx ₹206 crore from its first weekend, becoming the first Indian film to do so. It grossed around ₹345 crore from its extended first weekend.As of 3 August 2016, the movie grossed ₹416 crore in India and $24 million overseas, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film of all time.The film's final worldwide gross was ₹589.25 crore (US$88 million), including ₹421.25 crore (US$63 million) in India and ₹168 crore (US$25 million) overseas.

Dhoom 3 grossed ₹198 crore (US$30 million) worldwide in its first weekend, including its Tamil and Telugu versions.On 6 January 2014, Yash Raj Films issued a statement that Dhoom 3 is officially the first Indian film to earn ₹5 billion (US$75 million) worldwide.The film's final worldwide gross was ₹589.2 crore (US$101 million), including ₹372 crore, (US$64 million) in India and US$35.6 million(₹217.2 crore) overseas.

9. Padmaavat

Overview: Queen Padmavati is happily married to a Rajput ruler, Maharawal Ratan Singh, until a tyrant Sultan, Alauddin Khilji, enters their life.

Due to the numerous controversies associated with Padmaavat before its release which resulted in banning the film in certain states, the film's commercial performance was highly unpredictable. The film was released in only 70% of places in India. However, despite limited screenings, the film earned an estimated ₹5 crore (US$750,000) in Wednesday paid previews. The following day, the film opened nationwide across 4,800 screens of which over 500 screens were shown in Tamil and Telegu. It earned an estimated ₹19 crore (US$2.8 million) nett on its opening day in India,

10. Tiger Zinda Hai

Overview: RAW Agent Tiger joins forces with Zoya, a Pakistani spy, in order to rescue a group of nurses who are held hostage by a terrorist organisation.

Tiger Zinda Hai made a new non-holiday record in India as it collected ₹34.1 crore nett on its first day.It went on to collect ₹35.30 crore nett gross on second day. The film recorded the second highest day of all time (after third day of Bahubali 2: The Conclusion) on its third day with net-gross of ₹45.53 crore and the highest ever for the Hindi film industry. With three day nett gross collections of over ₹1.14 billion, Tiger Zinda Hai had the second highest opening weekend of all time (after Bahubali 2: The Conclusion) and the highest opening weekend of all time in the Bollywood film industry. Tiger Zinda Hai grossed Rs 154 crore in first four days in India.
